New Seat

I got two both with red stitching and one with studs.
The bump stop is rigid not soft padded, not so comfy for the pillion. The lil lady was excited I had changed the seat. She tought she was coming for a ride until she sat on it and bitched about how hard it was then walked off in a huff!

The seat is fibreglass and seems sturdy, the ribbed "leather" which is really plasticy vinyl not even imitation leather. and the edging looks like a plastic coated fabric, where you can see the fabric texture.  Bit disappointed in the finish but I am super fussy.  Maybe a reupholster in the future, not the close future.

Well she is wedged in there nice an tight…..hope I don't need to get to the battery in a hurry!

Looks goo on the bike and an improvement from the solo seat.

Myford ML7

Think I need some new belts!!

I so need a place of my own, took me 10 min to move everyone's shit off this little sucker.

Powered her up and the motor runs.  The gears move freely but when I move the Pin on the Right up into the top position to engage the chuck into the lower gears it won't move……..Is it supposed to????

Need to find two new belts and see what I can do.

Route 69

The route for Chopped 2011

Still looking for riding buddies for the trip…..Let me know if your'e interested!

Chasing the Light!

My new office chair for making executive bike decisions!!  Love this retro old chair, some Kool shit!
Hap has a bad knee and has been having trouble standing the full days I have conned him into helping me with the bike.  Gotta say I really appreciate it.   Yesterday he came past my place to pick up my metal cut off saw, SHED BUILT by my Grandfather.  To cut the steel for various projects. So as I was riding over to his place I saw a modern an this old office chair on the side of the road.  I pulled over, so did Hap in his van thinking I'd killed the bike, something else to fix lol……Anyway I jogged back down the road, grabbed the chairs and threw em in the back of the van.  Here Hap you needed some wheeled work stools to get of yer bad leg!!!!!!!! FREE!

Going to get a bit of a work out cutting steel for Hap's new shop equipment he is making. Including  an English Wheel and other gear for making tanks etc.  I will cut up the material for the engine stands, S/Steel bars, and my sissy bar on it.

Bought the steel yesterday for the sissy bar and scrounged their off-cut section and got some good steel for the engine stand (@$1/Kg = $11 Cheap) Well the bloke said just chuck it in the Van don't worry. So I ended up just paying for the  rod to make the sissy bar and the 1" rod for the seat bungs etc.  Sweet!

Getting the bike ready for the re inspection.
New rear tyre already done..Check!
Swapped the blue park light out for a regular clear, and wired it into the system. Check!
Cleaned up a lot of the PO wiring and soldered the wires then covered in heat shrink as we went…
Tested the brake light, had to get a new switch from the wreckers, fitted it, needs a bit of adjustment to the lever as it tends to come on with the weight of the lever . Check!

Couldn't buy a blue bezel LED, so I bought a green one and a blue LED and made my own…..Stupid sales girl sold me a 12Volt LED that wasn't…..POP!  Back to the store for a replacement, no charge. Got a resistor to fix the 12V.
Drilled out the speedo mount. to fit and couldn't find a tap to screw the bezel direct into the aluminium as planned.

So had to get a drill tip ground flat like a mill, and machine a step down so I could screw the nut on the back.

Wired her all up……..Nada!……..Damn had the damn LED wired backwards.  Open up the headlight and rewire.

We had Blue light!   High Beam indicator light...Check!

Hap's poor project sitting there going what about me????
Well all this work on my bike has gotten him inspired, & a cleaned work workshop. So it shouldn't be long now.
While getting the parts for my bike, Hap picked up a new helmet, a set of LED indicators and Tail light.
So the juices are flowing.

I also ended up buying some wet weather Dryrider over gear and a pair of kevlar reinforced cargos by Draggin….They were on sale and heavily discounted. I think the fact that I got rained on the way over to Hap's may have swung my decision a little….
I also broke the heel off my boots and thought maybe a new pair but I knew the bank account didn't have the funds, I already owe on the credit card.  Glue and gaffer tape will have to suffice!

Well I'm off to get my re-inspection!

RWC Inspection & Fabrication Shopping List.

Yesterday I took the bike in (Naked Lady, aka Flame bike) for RWC Inspection.

Alas she failed……….Which is ok because I was expecting her too…

Got to leave a few small things for them to pick on or they will find something you don't know about….

So the list is:

  1. New Rear Tyre……….(Surprised, but I had shredded the side wall a bit, Done yesterday Pirelli $185 fitted.
  2. Front Brake light switch not working.
  3. High Beam indicator light missing (Actually there but not visible)
  4. Headlight park light not working  (Didn't expect this one….Old sealed beam didn't have one new semi sealed Hella does and now I have to wire it in……DOH!)
  5. Right side axle adjuster loose……..(easy done)

So with a bit of luck I will knock off the three electrical items today!!  Head back down this arvo or tomorrow morning and bam I have my RWC and off to Vicroads for registration!  Yeah Baby!

Also today I am going to head out and get some steel for my sissy bar. While I am there I will get some to make a few other items as well.

  • Sissy Bar - ½, ⅝, ¼" Cold rolled rod
  • Engine stand - 1" angle
  • Seat spring bungs - 1" rod
  • Fender bungs - 1" rod
  • Seat hinge  - flat plate
  • Full size seat pan -  flat plate
Also might check out a bit of brass for some pegs and grips etc.

While I am cutting and fabricating I am going to make me some 1" step down stainless steel handle bars dragster style.

Next…………….

Next  items on this bikes agenda will be the sissy bar, & making some step down 1"-⅞" drag bars from some stainless steel I have.

Also want to change the elec box or at least paint it black.

Another mod will be the seat, either a new one, or getting rid of the aluminium pan and moving the solo seat back and lower.

Just gotta get this bike reg.

I am now thinking to get a another frame possibly a damaged one to chop and put the hardtail on so I can continue to ride while I build.

Decisions…..

Forked Up Forks

Ok I never new forks could give so much drama. Here is hoping all is resolved.

If you have been following you know I rebuilt the forks last weekend.  There was issues with the hack job the previous owner had done on them and they leaked.

Well here is the damage and the repair job.

As you can see there were two nice big grooves cut in the forks.
I used this rag soaked in a little petrol to clean he oil off the top rim then stuffed the  rag into the top of the fork to catch any debris. I moulded some epoxy metal putty into the grooves and let it harden.  I then wrapped the fork cap thread in teflon tape to build it up a bit.  Once hard I got some emery and sanded the putty smooth.  Screwed the cap in down to the O-ring added some silicon, screwed it shut and left it to set.
36hrs later bounced on the forks and no weeping!  Yeah baby!

Swapped all four bolts over in the lower triple clamp after breaking one.  I think the black socket heads look much better. See image to left for comparison with original.

Removed the aluminium chain guard and painted it.
Of course I scratched the sh%t out of it trying to get it back in…..kinda a force fit, with out removing the shock and rear wheel.  So I masked the bike up and gave it a bit of a spray…..you know it, it now has runs in it….

This is my sissy bar concept.  Thinking to have the bar follow the line of the rear hoop.  Tabs coming off to the  shock mounts and rear fender mounts.  May run a flat across the top of the rear hoop if need and use the existing hole to bolt to.
It's about 700mm high and has a nice smaller gauge inner detail.  Thinking to use ½" Rod, and paint it black.
I'm hoping to take the bike to Chopped 2011 and need to take my camping gear, swag and camera gear.

Hoping to take the bike for RWC tomorrow……….Finally! Fingers Crossed.

Copper is King!
